What does "ride the saw shoe against the guide" mean?
I'm reading on how to cut an opening on an entry door to make a speakeasy and use the piece of wood from the door for the interior swinging door of the speakeasy. I came across directions on how best to do this and it is recommended that I "ride the saw shoe against the guide." What does this mean in carpentry terms? As you can see, I'm not a carpenter nor a woodworker!
You guys did a great job! All of you. Thanks, I learned something today.
The saw shoe is the plate at the bottom of your circular saw or jig saw. Once you draw the profile of the speakeasy door on your door, youll want to clamp a piece of wood or a fat ruler down (as a "guide") so that when you run the edge of the shoe on it the blade of your saw cuts on your line. this will ensure straight cuts.

Juust thought i would do the right thing and share this, something we all should be aware of!!?
This gives us something to think about with all our new electronic technology.
GPS
A couple of weeks ago a friend told me that someone she knew had their car broken into while they were at a football match. Their car
was parked on the green which was adjacent to the football stadium and specially allotted to football fans. Things stolen from the car
included a garage door remote control, some money and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on the dashboard.
When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen.
The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the garage remote control to open the garage door and
gain entry to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time the game was scheduled to
finish and so they knew how much time they had to clean up the house.
It would appear that they had brought a truck to empty the house of its contents.
MOBILE PHONE
I never thought of this.......
This lady has now changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag,
which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet... etc... was stolen.
20 minutes later when she called her hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I received your text
asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago.'
When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the
stolen cell phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money
from their bank account.
Moral of the lesson:
Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby,
Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc.... And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling back.
Also, when you're being text by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you!
I never thought about THAT!
As of now, I no longer have 'home' listed on my cell phone.
Probably not in right subject but you get that!
Omg some members here are just clueless or stupid. Thank you for the info. It means a lot to me because guilty. My GPS is always in my truck and my garage door opener it's inside. Everytime I to home for the most part a go inside the garage so the door to get inside is never lock but I do set up the alarm. So thank hyou I know what to do next time
What do you think about my college entry letter?
If I had to describe myself in one word I couldn't do it, not to sound cocky or anything I just can't. I like to look at myself & think that I'm ahead of my years. As an kid I LOVED going to school. I use to cry & get upset if my mother signed me out for early dissmals, because I had a doctor's appointment or for whatever reason. God forbid if I didn't get to go to school at all for that day. You would need a mop to clean up all thoses tears. I loved going to school to learn about anything. Learning filled a void for me that I was missing at home. Learning made me feel special. My biggest critic is myself & I can't stress this enough. The reason why this is because I didn't exactly have the greatest childhood growing up. My mother would yell at me all the time & tell me that I was no good & that I would never amount to anything. I had no father around to wipe the tears from my eyes, so I learn at a very young age that if you want something you better go for it. I see young adults my age that walk around & expect the world to bend over backwards for them. The way I see it is the world doesn't owe you nothing! You owe the world. What I mean by this is that you owe the world & yourself to strive to be a productive member of society & to take pride in everything you do, never give up or give in, even an inch. Although I’ve been through many trials and tribulations, I’ve always found a way to succeed.
Education is the key to the door of opportunities. I know it sounds so old fashion but it's so true. To be honest, I haven’t always had straight A’s or been an honor roll student, but I have alway's felt that education is the greatest gift you can give yourself. Alot of people don't realize that education that one has or receives affects the lives of the people around them, or matter afact your children that you'll have some day. How will you care for them without a good job? You can't .I’ve worked diligently my entire life, and after taking several years off from school I would like to focus my attention on school. I'm ready to go back. I’m determined to succeed and take advantage of all the classes involved with your Advertising and Marketing curriculum.
I feel that I will succeed in your Advertising and Marketing program is because I’ll be guided by a faculty of practicing professionals, pretty much the best of the best. That will teach me everything I need to know. Like creating integrated marketing communication campaigns for advertising, public relations, direct marketing, and sales promotions. Also I’ll learn how to develop media plans and special events; direct and produce television and radio commercials; and write print ads, press releases, and newspaper and magazine articles. The way I feel about this program is that I’m in good hands. That’s a great feeling knowning that I will have practicing professionals as professors that want me to succeed a much as I do.
FIT would be a huge stepping stone for my future. I know that life has its trade-offs and getting an education at FIT can open so many doors. FIT’s approach to teaching is so unique from any other colleges, which is the reason why I know I would benefit from your school. It’s educational approach and direct connection with the industry is what sets this school apart from the rest. With my experience and a college degree in my hand, I feel as if the possibilities are endless.
yes if someone can help me proof read this !!!!! my email is chrisadamorocco@yahoo.com thanks so much!
I have some time before my next class, so here you go. *My comments are between the stars. First of all, you need to develop a thesis you want to hammer home. There's a lot of ideas in this essay that aren't very cohesive. After that, come up with one idea for each paragraph, and have a topic sentence for those. There also needs to be an introduction and conclusion. Just because it's a personal essay doesn't mean the format goes out the window. You may want to look up the template for the five paragraph essay and follow that. Second, I changed a lot of the second person to the first person. You don't want to sound like you're lecturing the reader. It's a personal statement. Also, you need to indent your paragraphs and put two spaces after every period.* If I had to describe myself in one word I couldn't do it. I like to think that I'm ahead of my years. As an kid I loved going to school. I used to cry and get upset if my mother signed me out for early dismissals if I had a doctor's appointment; God forbid if I didn't get to go to school at all for that day! You would need a mop to clean up all thoses tears. I loved going to school just to learn. Learning filled a void for me that I was missing at home. Learning made me feel special. *Put some kind of transition here* I am my biggest critic- I can't stress that enough. This trait is due to my childhood. My mother would yell at me often, telling me that I was no good and that I would never amount to anything. I had no father around to wipe the tears from my eyes *two tear references might be too much*, so I learned at a very young age that if I wanted something, I'd have to go for it myself. I see people my age that seem to expect the world to bend over backwards for them. I feel the world doesn't owe me. If anything, I owe the world. I owe it to myself to strive to become a productive member of society and to take pride in everything I do. I can never give up or give in, even an inch. Although I’ve been through many trials and tribulations, I’ve always found a way to succeed. *There's a lot of cliches here. Howabout some more specifics other than "my mom yelled at me"?* I believe education is the key to the door of opportunities. I know it sounds so old fashioned, but it's so true. *Took out self-depricating statement here* A lot of people don't realize that education that one receives affects the lives of the people around them, or your children that one might have some day. A good job is necessary to care for them, and education is needed for that. *Don't like this sentence, but you can work with it* I’ve worked diligently my entire life, and after taking several years off from school I would like to focus my attention on school. I’m determined to succeed and take advantage of all the classes involved with your Advertising and Marketing curriculum. *This shouldn't be the first time I'm hearing what you're applying for. Mention it earlier* I feel that I will succeed in your Advertising and Marketing program because I’ll be guided by an amazing faculty of practicing professionals. I look forward to learning such topics as creating integrated marketing communication campaigns for advertising, public relations, direct marketing, and sales promotions. I also hope to learn how to develop media plans and special events, direct and produce television and radio commercials, and write print ads, press releases, and newspaper and magazine articles. I can't wait to have practicing professionals as professors that want me to succeed a much as I do. *You only talked about what they can do for you. They know they can help you- what can you do for them? That's what they really want to know.* FIT *this should not be the first time I hear the college's name. It makes it sound like a form letter.* would be an amazing opportunity. Getting an education at FIT can open so many doors. FIT’s approach to teaching is so unique from any other colleges, which is the reason why I know I would benefit from your school. It’s educational approach and direct connection with the industry is what sets this school apart from the rest. *The last two sentences should be in your second to last paragraph* With the experience I will get at FIT, I feel as if the possibilities are endless.

My childhood experince will be the driving force towards my success at The Fashion Institute of Technology. I am my biggest critic- I can't stress that enough. This trait is due to my childhood. My mother would yell at me often, telling me that I was no good and that I would never amount to anything. I had no father around to encourage me. I was the middle child of three other brothers. I was the child that would get blamed for everything. Nothing came easy for me. So I learned at a very young age that if I wanted something, I'd have to go for it myself. I see people my age that seem to expect the world to bend over backwards for them. I feel the world doesn't owe me. If anything, I owe the world. I owe it to myself to strive to become a productive member of society and to take pride in everything I do. I can never give up or give in, even an inch. Although I’ve been through many trials and tribulations, I’ve always found a way to succeed and at The Fashion Institute of Technology I will do just that “Succeed”.

Hopefully, I’ve proved how determined and ready I am to attend your school. I could go on and on, but in the end, I would just like you to know that attending college at FIT would change my life. The chance to meet teachers and peers that are in the industry is priceless. If I am accepted into your school, it would be an honor. I would take each class seriously, and strive to get the best grades possible. With the experience I will get at FIT, I feel as if the possibilities are endless.
